HONEYMOON IN TANZANIA

Tanzania is a country of spectacular beauty, with a wealth of natural resources. It has everything you could want from a honeymoon: romantic and idyllic tropical islands, rugged and craggy mountains and acres of savannah plains as far as the eye can see, teaming with wildlife.

Expect the unexpected and delight in the many spectacles and surprises in store for you on your honeymoon in Tanzania. An absolute highlight of the region is the Great Migration - the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra across the Serengeti.

Ngorongoro Crater
The world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is situated at the eastern edge of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania. It lies within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which covers more than 8 000 square kilometres
(3 100 square miles) of pristine African wilderness. The crater is the largest, intact volcanic caldera in the world and is home to to a permanent population of more than 30 000 animals. Unique to the crater is that the local Maasai graze their cattle on the floor, and it is not unusual to see Maasai cattle and buffalo grazing together.
Olduvai Gorge
Known as the Cradle of Humankind, it was here that Dr. Louis Leakey discovered the remains of Homo Habilis (Hardy man). Many more fossils have been discovered here including those of prehistoric elephants, giant horned sheep and enormous ostriches. There is a fascinating museum at the Gorge, and the volcanic ash dune of Shifting Sands situated nearby is an absolute highlight.

Mount Kilimanjaro
The highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes ever to burst through the earth's crust. With an altitude of 5 895 metres above sea level, a mountain base of 50 x 80 kilometres and a snow-capped Kibo peak, Mount Kilimanjaro is also world-famous for its plentiful bird life, rich forest zone, diversity of wild-game and wide array of butterflies, moths and other insects. The youngest climber to reach the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro was eleven years old and the oldest, seventy-four.
Serengeti
Serengeti National Park, as large as Northern Ireland, is undoubtedly the best known wildlife sanctuary in the world ( 14 763 square kilometres), unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value. About 35 species of plains animals can be observed here, including the Big Five — elephant, rhino, lion (more than 2 000 of them), leopard and buffalo, and large herds of wildebeest, gazelle and zebra. Nearly 500 species of birds have been recorded in the park.
